1946 Film Screening & Panel Discussion an LGBTQ+ history month event by Reading Pride Celebration
We will be screening the Documentary 1946 which questions? What if the word “homosexual” was never meant to be in the Bible? 1946 is a documentary film that chronicles how the misuse of a single word changed the course of modern history.
Religion has often throughout history divided us. The LGBTQ+ community has often been & continues to be the target of religion. Religion mixed with politics has made our community a target for elected officials too. Friends, Family, & even kids have been disowned & shunned for being gay. Homeless children, high suicide rates, hatred, conversion therapy, violence, solitude & depression and more caused by religious beliefs. What if what we were taught is wrong? What if the Bible wasn't talking about homosexuality? What if it was all based on a mistranslation? What if it was intentional? What would a revelation like this mean for you & our community?
We know there are many open & affirming congregations, but while they accept us, many interpretations of the Bible tell them we are living in sin & unless we seek forgiveness & change, we will not inherit the kingdom of God. This event isn't meant to question or ask anyone to turn away from their religion, but rather to inform, and ask questions about what we have been taught. After the movie, we will have a panel of invited Religious & Community leaders, to answer questions and provide their thoughts & insight.
We hope you will join us for this valuable learning experience. Popcorn, hotdogs, & refreshments will be available for purchase.
